Week of 10/28 - Wrap-Up
A very busy week... and not just for me. Lots of news and interesting stuff to read about. Enjoy!
Terabyte nanotech thumb drives around the corner?
Cool article. I wrote about the expanding memory capabilities of flash drives last week. Me? I've yet to use or purchase a thumb drive - guess I'm holding out for the petabyte flash drive.
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard: the Ars Technica review
Awesome review of Apple's new Leopard OS. I haven't purchased my copy yet. I'm holding out to upgrade my HD from 60 GB to 250GB and then I'll buy the new OS. Would rather do it all at once, plus that will give the OS time to gestate at other's expense.
NBC, Fox to Launch Online Video Site
I'm fascinated by the changes taking place with regards to digital media. I am amused with how the big media conglomerates are coping with the changes. Good move or bad move (ads)? You decide...
Erwin High: 'dropout factory'
This is sad, for any school. I don't know anything about Erwin, but my brother Kevin graduated from there and my other brother is currently a student. He's top of his class, so I wonder what that really means. Our education system sucks - I'm trudging my way through it as we speak. I wonder when it will move into the 21st century.
Scientists Say Dark Matter Doesn't Exist
I did an oral presentation to my Milky Way Galaxy class last year on dark matter. I thought it was a novel idea and have so far been convinced. But what about pre-Einstein thought of ether? Is dark matter our modern day ether? I'm open to anything, so this is interesting nonetheless.
Photo Essay: Santiago Canyon Fire, Foothill Ranch, Orange County
A brief photo essay to show just how terrible the fires were. Look for the one where the palm tree in the front yard (surrounded by homes) is on fire - unbelievable!
NBC chief says Apple 'destroyed' music pricing
I am a firm believer that capitalism and competition are good for business, but come on NBC! $4.99 per episode? Do you think were schmucks? I've tagged this story as blogable, so you'll probably be hearing about it again.
MGM Mirage, Wynn Report Mixed Results
News from Joe and I's new favorite vacation destination. Looking forward to seeing City Center when we go back out to Vegas. Would love to check out their endeavors in Atlantic City and Maccau.
Google gets more social with new network
This will be interesting, but I'm skeptical due to my recent experiences (or lack thereof) with GMail (more to come on that later). We'll see what happens, for now I am an active member of both Facebook and MySpace, and can't keep up with either.
Wikipedia Becomes a Class Assignment
I mentioned education a few lines up, this is more along the lines of what we need to be hearing. I think this is cool, positive, and of the most benefit for students and the online community. A+ for this teacher!
