Downloaded it on Sunday.

Installed it yesterday.

Installed TrueCrypt and mounted my encrypted USB stick.

Installed the latest version of Password Safe.

Retrieved my Movable Type password and wrote this post in IE8.

First impression?  I really like it.  Installation was a breeze and very fast (I'm using Parallels as a virtual machine host).  Task bar is very Mac-like and I like the enhanced right-click functionality (like the history on IE8).  IE8 seems very fast; reminds me of Chrome when I first installed it.

I like it enough that I'm going to try to use it pretty consistently for the Spring semester.

I've moved my Apps page underneath the Feeds / Lists page.  In addition, I've published a podcasts page which lists all of the podcasts to which I'm subscribed and links to the associated feeds.

Finance in the Cloud

A few months ago I started using Mint to manage and track my finances instead of a local copy of Moneydance.  The reason for the switch from local to cloud finance tracking was one of pure laziness - Moneydance required me to manually download my bank transactions whereas these new cloud applications take care of that hassle for me.  But one frustrating experience with my bank account ended my relationship with Mint very quickly.

One feature of my personal password policy is frequent password changes.  Unfortunately, Mint can't handle this personal security gracefully.  In fact, after changing my banking PIN, my only option at Mint was to delete my account or re-enter all of my account information.  WTF?

But this is only part of the story.  I discovered all of this after a very frustrating phone call with my bank.  Over the Christmas holiday I was repeatedly locked out of my bank account due to excessive failed login attempts.  After arguing with the bank about whether I actually knew my PIN number, it occurred to me that Mint was pinging my account with the wrong PIN (the old PIN).  But alas, I couldn't change it to the new PIN.

So I deleted my Mint account and signed up for Quicken's new online service.  So far I'm pleased with the service (pretty much the same as Mint) and thankful that it doesn't have all the savings offers (a.k.a., credit card offers) that are all over Mint.  I'm not using any of the planning / budgeting features since I do all of that in a good old-fashioned spreadsheet, but its snapshot of all my accounts with transaction review is exactly what I need.  It would be nice to see if this online service is eventually integrated into my TurboTax account to help out with my taxes.

Just added a new Feeds page with a link in the top navigation bar.  Right now I've posted links to my Shared Google Reader Items and my Google Book Library.  I've decided that instead of blogging about news that I read, I can use Google Reader's share with a note feature to add my own comments to the news.
